Hyundai slashes Ioniq and Kona Electric prices to grant-friendly levels

By / 3 years ago / UK News / No Comments

Hyundai has reduced prices of its Kona Electric and Ioniq Electric across the range to ensure they remain eligible for the current Plug-in Car Grant.

The Kona Electric now offers the longest range of any PiCG-eligible vehicle

Prices among the Ioniq Electric range are reduced for the Premium model to £32,995 and the Premium SE to £34,995 (before application of the first registration fee). Meanwhile, Kona Electric 39KWh prices have also been reduced, with the SE Connect now costing £30,395 and Premium at £31,745 (before first registration fee applied).

The price cuts follow last month’s changes to the PiCG, which saw the grant itself fall from £3,000 to £2,500 while the price ceiling drops from £50,000 to £35,000.

The changes mean the Kona Electric now offers the longest range of any PiCG-eligible vehicle, according to Hyundai.

The price reductions come ahead of the arrival of the Ioniq 5 later this year; prices for the all-electric crossover have not yet been revealed, bar the limited-edition Project 45 model which went on sale last month, priced at £48,000.

Ashley Andrew, managing director, Hyundai Motor UK said: “When it comes to electric vehicles, cost is a big consideration so it was important for us, in light of the changes to the PiCG, to provide our customers with some additional savings, which we hope will help to maintain demand for zero emission vehicles. Ioniq Electric and Kona Electric are currently among the most popular zero-emissions vehicles on sale today, and by maintaining the choice and the value available, Hyundai will remain on track to be one of the largest suppliers of electric vehicles in the country.”
