Jeep has launched a plug-in hybrid version of its Renegade SUV in the UK – offering sub-50g/km emissions and a 26-mile electric-only range.

The Renegade 4xe will be the first electrified Jeep model to reach the UK

The first electrified Jeep model to reach the UK, it’s badged ‘4xe’ and is priced from £32,600 OTR with deliveries starting in September.

Available in three trim levels and two power outputs, the Jeep Renegade 4xe teams up a 1.3-litre turbo petrol engine with an electric motor, located between the rear axle, which is powered by an 11.4kWh battery. Engine output stands at 130 or 180hp, which along with the 60hp produced by the electric motor gives a total of 190hp in the Longitude and Limited version or 240hp in the Trailhawk model. An additional motor is located on the front axle and is coupled to the internal combustion engine, acting as a high-voltage generator. Power is transmitted through a six-speed automatic gearbox.

Acceleration from zero to 62mph takes around 7.5 seconds with a top speed of 81mph in full electric and up to 124mph in hybrid mode.

Described as having the best performance and driving dynamics of any Jeep SUV ever, the Renegade 4xe also offers all-wheel drive on tap  and an updated Selec-Terrain rotary control with eAWD modes (4WD Lock, 4WD Low, Hill Descent Control) to engage the different driving modes – Auto, Snow, Mud & Sand, and Rock – including a Sport mode for enhanced throttle response and steering.

It’s distinguished from the rest of the Renegade range through blue badging and a bespoke cover towards the rear, which covers the charging port.

Onboard tech includes a 7-inch TFT colour display, and Uconnect NAV with 8.4-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and DAB radio are also offered as standard.

Advanced ADAS systems available include forward collision warning and lane departure warning plus, intelligent speed assist and traffic sign recognition and front and rear parking sensors. The Jeep Renegade 4xe also debuts the new Drowsy Driver Detection system; a first for the brand.

Additional safety features including blind spot detection, ParkView rear backup camera with dynamic grid lines, automatic park assist and keyless go can also be specified.
