Kia has revealed details for its new EV2, which arrives later this year as its smallest and most affordable EV.

Uncovered at the Brussels Motor Show, the compact electric SUV will be available with two battery options and up to 281 miles of range, offering one of the longest ranges for EVs starting under £25k (incl. discount).

The Škoda Epiq, Renault 4 and Volkswagen ID. Polo rival will be available exclusively as a five-seater in the UK.

While reservations are now open, Kia is still awaiting confirmation on the EV2’s eligibility for the UK Government’s Electric Car Grant (ECG). To bridge the gap, the EV2 Reservation Saving ensures qualifying customers receive an equivalent discount, offering £3,750 off Air, GT-Line and GT-Line S models, or £1,500 off the First Edition. This brings the entry price for the EV2 down to £24,245.

Built on Kia’s Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) bespoke EV architecture, the brand’s smallest EV to date is offered in the UK with two lithium-ion battery options from launch. A 42.2kWh standard-range battery pack is offered exclusively on the First Edition variant, while a 61.0kWh long-range battery pack is offered exclusively on Air, GT-Line and GT-Line S.

All variants of the EV2 are powered by a single front-mounted electric motor. Models equipped with the standard-range battery pack get a 146hp front-mounted motor, allowing the EV2 to accelerate from 0-to-62mph in 8.7 seconds.

The larger long-range battery pack is paired with a slightly detuned 135hp front motor , giving a 0-62mph acceleration time of 9.5 seconds. All EV2 variants produce 250Nm torque and have a maximum speed of 100mph.

As with the EV3, EV4 and EV5, the EV2 integrates 400V charging technology. It’s able to charge at up to 150kW on a DC fast charger, giving a 10-80% charge in 29 minutes. When plugged into an 11kW three-phase AC charger, the EV2 can charge from 10 to 100% in five hours and 20 minutes, or seven hours and 15 minutes for the long-range version.

Design echoes the bold and boxy exterior of the EV5 and EV9, with aerodynamic measures to boost range and efficiency, such as Active Air Flaps in the front bumper, flush door handles and undercovers for the front motor, side sills and rear suspension.

The EV’s compact design gives a footprint that’s lightly wider and taller than Stonic. All variants have 362 litres of boot space with all seats in place. With the second row of seats folded, this extends to 1,201 litres of storage space. First Edition, GT-Line and GT-Line S variants come with a 15-litre frunk, suitable for charging cable storage.

Onboard tech includes Kia’s new Connected Car Navigation Cockpit (CCNC), integrated into the dual 12.3-inch display and infotainment screens and equipped for wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The EV2’s displays also integrate an additional 5.3-inch climate control touchscreen, accompanied by physical switches for heating and ventilation.

The EV2 is also the latest Kia model to offer the brand’s AI Personal Assistant. First rolled out on the EV3, customers can use the AI assistant to interact with and control the vehicle’s features directly and intuitively. The integration of generative AI also adds to the capability for Kia’s voice assistant. Activated by saying “Hey Kia”, the AI assistant can support travel planning, suggest stop-off points and POI information, and answer FAQs regarding the owner’s manual. Continuous over-the-air (OTA) updates will enhance the AI assistant over time.

Every EV2 comes equipped with Kia CarPay and Plug & Charge as standard and free of charge. CarPay allows drivers to locate and pay for parking through the vehicle’s central infotainment screen, while Plug & Charge streamlines the charging process. When the EV2 is connected to a Plug & Charge-compatible charge station, the charging session can be activated automatically with no need to authorise via charging card or app.
