TransPennine Express passengers can now reach their destination quicker and easier with the help of a new pay-as-you-go car club from Enterprise.

Under the new solution, low-emission hybrid vehicles at Scarborough, Selby and Malton are ready for action and bookable from anywhere with the Enterprise Car Club app. This enables  business and leisure passengers to easily access a low-cost car from the train station for the last leg of their journey, allowing them to leave their own car at home and let the train ‘take the strain’.

Each station will have a designated parking space with its own rental car allocated to it. Passengers can hire the vehicle using Enterprise Car Club, and all transactions for the vehicle are handled through an easy-to-use app.

New members signing up to the scheme can also use any of the 1,300 other Enterprise Car Club vehicles located at 220 towns, communities, housing developments and transport hubs across the UK. This includes 268 vehicles available for round-the-clock rental at 135 Enterprise Rent-A-Car branches around the UK.

Dan Gursel, Enterprise Car Club commercial director in the UK, said the combination of rail travel and a car club vehicle for the last leg of the journey delivers a highly practical proposition for many business and leisure trips.

“It means people only use the car when it makes sense to do so and can help businesses to reduce emissions if their employees take the train for more journeys.”

The 2024 survey of car club users by transport charity Collaborative Mobility UK (CoMoUK) shows that 55% of members use a train or a tram at least once a week – compared to only 9% of the UK population. The data also showed that 50% of members said they would not have been able to go to their destination without a car and 44% said they needed a car to carry luggage of bulky items.

The new solution also supports work by TransPennine Express to cut emissions as part of its commitment to be net zero carbon by 2050.
