MGS9 PHEV seven-seater leaked ahead of UK launch next year

MG’s first seven-seat SUV has received an accidental reveal ahead of its launch next year.

The MGS9 PHEV will be based around a 1.5-litre petrol with a plug-in hybrid system

Already available in Australia as the MG QS, the family-friendly SUV is now heading to the UK and mainland Europe, as revealed in the latest crash safety ratings from Euro NCAP.

The MGS9 was one of 23 new cars tested in the latest batch of safety ratings, dropping news of its arrival in Europe.

MG hasn’t commented on the accidental crash-test leak, which happened a mere month after Euro NCAP accidentally revealed the new MGS6 EV, which has since gone on sale in the UK.

MG says the Australian QS is a “true seven-seater with three full-size rows, smart tech, and a family-focused design. Built for every journey – from school runs to road trips – it’s backed by a 10-year warranty~ for peace of mind wherever the road takes you”.

In Australia, the QS is available with a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol and a choice of front- or all-wheel drive, but the Euro NCAP results reveal that the powertrain for the European model will be based around a 1.5-litre petrol with a plug-in hybrid system; potentially the same as the MG HS.

The Aussie QS also comes with extended dual-display 12.3-inch screens and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

In terms of safety, the MGS9 PHEV scored a full five stars from Euro NCAP and received an 84% rating for adult occupant safety, 85% for child occupant, 74% for vulnerable road users and 77% for safety assist.
