NewMotion grows public roaming network with Osprey rapid chargers

By / 3 years ago / UK News / No Comments

NewMotion has expanded its roaming charging network with the addition of rapid chargers from Osprey Charging.

The deal sees a total of 259 Osprey rapid chargers join the NewMotion network

Osprey – formerly Engenie – operates a nationwide network of rapid DC charge points that charge at 50kW; the deal sees a total of 259 chargers join the NewMotion network, which already has some 170,000 charge points. Osprey also has higher-power chargers coming soon.

The partnership has been enabled by Hubject’s intercharge platform, which provides open and standardised interfaces to enable roaming between partners.

Although Osprey already accepts contactless payment, the firm said the roaming partnership would help create a more connected charging network for drivers and help ease the pressure of range anxiety.

Ian Johnston, Osprey Charging CEO, commented: “Osprey Charging is a totally open access public charging network, so it’s important to us to be available in the e-mobility services that drivers turn to when they need a charge. The partnership with NewMotion enabled via Hubject allows more EV drivers to discover our rapid chargers across the UK, and to easily start and pay for a charge.”

NewMotion has said it’s looking for further partnerships. It currently works with more than 200 partner charging networks in Europe.

UK general manager Alan McCleave commented: “It’s great to see roaming partnerships are becoming the norm here in the UK as our EV market continues to mature and the need for easy access to charging infrastructure grows. Using Hubject’s intercharge platform to facilitate this roaming partnership offers a reliable connection to the Osprey network. We’re always looking for more partners with open networks, who want to make EV charging easy for drivers.”
