The UK’s landmark Planning and Infrastructure Bill has received Royal Assent, paving the way to accelerate charge point rollout and address charging accessibility.

The legislation lays the groundwork for a new approach to prioritise grid connections for the most important projects for clean power.

It aims to speed up charge point rollout by simplifying planning for on-street chargers, reducing street works licensing hurdles and supporting cross-pavement solutions for homes without driveways. It includes powers to mandate existing accessibility standards (PAS 1899) at public chargers if voluntary industry compliance continues to lag behind.

“By accelerating charge point rollout and embedding accessibility through PAS 1899, it ensures future charging points are reliable and safe for drivers with disabilities. EVA England has long championed accessible charging, and we welcome the Government’s decisive action on this issue. We urge them to continue supporting all drivers, so the EV transition works for everyone.”
