Renault Group plans to take full control of the Flexis electric van venture, buying out the stakes held by Volvo Group and shipping firm CMA CGM.

The move was reported by French newspaper Le Monde, which said CEO François Provost, who took over last year, was accelerating efforts to streamline operations as market growth falls short of expectations.

The Flexis joint venture was created in 2023 by former Renault CEO Luca de Meo in partnership with Volvo Group. Headquartered in France, it officially launched in 2024 with plans to introduce a new family of fully electric vans from 2026, based on a software-defined vehicle (SDV) platform and providing dedicated services.

Under the existing arrangement, Renault and Volvo each have a 45% share, with CMA CGM owning the remaining 10%.

According to Le Monde, Renault is in discussions to take full control of the venture.

The Flexis family comprises three models: the Step-in van, the Cargo van and the Panel van. The trio were debuted a year ago and showcased at the Solutrans 2025 show last autumn. Designed for urban logistics, the vans are built on a ‘skateboard’ platform and feature fast charging, high modularity, low floors and 280+ miles of range. Series production will begin in mid-2026 at the Renault Group’s Sandouville plant in France.

The company has also formed major tech partnerships with Geotab, Ampeco and Prologis Mobility, strengthening its ecosystem for connected, data-driven fleet operations.

Renault Group has already said that it plans to reintegrate its Ampere electric vehicle division, which was spun off in 2023, back into the company. It’s also axed car-sharing services and plans for its electric Mobilize Duo quadricycle as part of a restructuring of its Mobilize division.
