On sale from next month and priced from £39,995, the revamped midsize SUV delivers key new features and powertrain upgrades.

First launched in summer 2022 as the inauguarl model in a new generation of purpose-designed Toyota battery electric SUVs, the bZ4X now offers two battery options, including 57.7kWh and 73.1kWh packs, compared to the previous 71.4kWh unit and front- or all-wheel drive.

These are combined with new eAxles, which integrate a motor, an inverter and a transaxle, providing greater power while extending the car’s driving range to up to 352 miles, compared to 317 miles for the current version.

The bZ4X also gets improved battery charging times thanks to a new battery pre-conditioning function and the provision of a 22kW onboard AC charger on Excel grades. Maximum DC charging power remains 150kW.

Design changes introduce a new light bar linking slimline headlight units and tracing the line of the signature Toyota hammerhead shape. New alloy wheels designs and wheel arches with a glossy piano black finish are also included.

The cabin gets a new, slimline dashboard extending the full width of the cabin. This features a new 14-inch multimedia screen – standard on all version – as its central feature, above a new ‘digital island’ centre console that incorporates twin wireless smartphone chargers.

An enlarged, one-piece panoramic roof is available as an option.

The suspension has been tuned for increased ride comfort and improved dynamic handling. Toyota has also worked on noise and vibration reduction.

Trim levels have been revised and include Icon, Design and Excel grades.

The entry-level Icon comes with the smaller battery and gets the two wireless smartphone chargers in the centre console, 14-inch multimedia display, ambient cabin lighting and glossy piano black wheel arches. Other specification details include front-wheel drive, heated front seats and steering wheel, a power back door and a Blind Spot Monitor.

Design grade introduces the more powerful 73.1 kWh battery. This is also a front-wheel drive model, building on the Icon specification with the addition of a Panoramic View Monitor, puddle lights and a windscreen de-icer.

The most senior Excel grade can be specified with front- or all-wheel drive. Both versions are equipped with 20-inch alloy wheels, heated, ventilated and power adjustable front seats, heated rear seats, a digital rear-view mirror and full synthetic leather seat upholstery. A 22kW on-board charger enables faster AC charging. It’s also available with the Premium Pack option that adds in panoramic roof, JBL premium audio and bi-tone paint execution for £2,500, including VAT.

Orders open on 3 November and customer deliveries start in January.
