Vauxhall is bringing all-wheel drive to its Grandland large SUV with a flagship new model due this autumn.

Arriving a year after the latest-generation family SUV debuted, it’s the first fully electric Vauxhall with a dual-motor set-up, offering hot-hatch levels of power with up to 311 miles of WLTP range.

The all-wheel-drive system couples the 213hp front-mounted motor featured in the standard Grandland Electric with an additional 112hp electric motor for the rear wheels, giving a total power output of 325hp, maximum torque of 509Nm and a 0-62mph time of 6.1 seconds.

Four drive modes are available: Normal, AWD, Sport and Eco. The Grandland AWD also gets uprated handling with frequency selective damping technology as standard, marking a first for this generation Grandland, along with bespoke chassis, steering and ESC tuning.

The 73kWh (usable) lithium-ion NMC battery delivers up to 311 miles (WLTP) of range and can charge from 20% to 80% in 26 minutes at a rapid charger.

Exclusive design enhancements for the Grandland Electric AWD deliver sportier looks that also reduce wind resistance. Streamlined inserts on the front and rear bumpers, along with its 20-inch two-tone aero wheels, make the Electric AWD the most aerodynamically efficient Grandland model, with a drag coefficient (Cd) of 0.278.

As with the rest of the Grandland family, the new addition uses Vauxhall’s Bold and Pure design language, teaming up the 3D Vizor front grille with the illuminated Griffin logo and Edge Light Technology, plus Intelli-Lux HD headlights. The rear comes with the permanently illuminated ‘Vauxhall’ lettering and ‘Grandland’ is centrally embossed in the tailgate.

Pricing and spec details will be outlined closer to the UK start of sales in early autumn. Customer deliveries are set to begin from later in the autumn.

It’s the latest EV development from Vauxhall, which offers an electric variant of every car and van in its model line-up and also recently teased the arrival of fully electric, high-performance GSE models.
