Aldi customers will soon find it even easier to ‘juice while they shop’ thanks to a new partnership with EV charging infrastructure expert Drax Electric Vehicles.

The supermarket has transitioned around 1,200 electric vehicle chargers at more than 250 stores across the UK over to Drax, providing a more reliable, seamless experience for grocery shoppers.

In addition to upgrading its current estate, Aldi has already introduced new charging facilities at over 30 locations – including stores in Diss (Norfolk), Eastbourne, Durham and Yate.

Moving forward, the supermarket chain plans to equip roughly 20 new stores each year with the upgraded technology as part of its ongoing nationwide expansion.

All newly built Aldi stores will offer a mix of fast and rapid chargers, with two AC fast chargers supporting four bays up to 22kW and up to two DC rapid chargers supporting four bays up to 160kW at each site – so customers can choose the option that suits their journey.

Drivers can access the chargers on a pay-as-you-go basis without any mandatory subscription. Payments can be processed directly via contactless card or through the Charge Assist mobile application, which also displays live station availability and costs.

The charging rollout focuses heavily on maintaining Aldi’s low-cost brand identity by offering competitive public charging tariffs. Fast charging is set at 40p per kWh while rapid charging costs 62p per kWh.

The expansion reinforces Aldi’s long-term commitment to sustainability and supports the UK’s transition to electric vehicles.
