Flexible Power Systems (FPS) and Barron McCann have launched a joint partnership to provide end-to-end support for van and truck fleets scaling up their electric vehicle operations.
Scaling EVs brings complex logistical hurdles
The collaboration combines FPS’s advanced fleet software with Barron McCann’s UK-wide engineering infrastructure to solve the major issue of keeping commercial electric vehicles on the road and chargers working during large-scale rollouts.
As commercial van and truck fleets transition from early pilots to large-scale operations, businesses face complex logistical hurdles. Fleet managers must navigate infrastructure availability, vehicle readiness, energy constraints, charging costs, route suitability, utilisation, reporting and return on investment, while continuing to meet customer service commitments and net zero objectives.
The partnership directly addresses these challenges by combining FPS’s EV transition advisory expertise and FPS Operate with Barron McCann’s front-line service capability.
The FPS Operate platform integrates data from across the fleet ecosystem, including vehicles, chargers, buildings and operations, and combines this into real-time ‘control-tower’ views, automated analytics and alert services. The platform also automatically optimises vehicle and task allocations, on-route charging stops and charging profiles to ensure assets are used efficiently.
The alliance combines FPS’s fleet software with Barron McCann’s engineering infrastructure
Barron McCann provides front-line support and service provision via its end-to-end EV charging deployment, monitoring, maintenance and support solutions across the UK. Its EV charger support offer combines 24/7 front-line support, remote monitoring and diagnostics, help desk services and nationwide on-site response through its field engineering teams. This is underpinned by Barron McCann’s logistics infrastructure and configuration facilities.
The partnership will give fleet customers a more complete support model for scaled EV operations. Customers will be able to plan deployments with greater confidence, manage vehicles and chargers in real time, improve utilisation, maintain charging infrastructure performance, reduce operational complexity and demonstrate measurable progress against cost, carbon and service objectives.
The combined offer is designed to help fleets make EVs part of reliable, sophisticated, high-availability day-to-day operations.
Benefits include faster EV scale-up and improved infrastructure availability
Benefits include reduced electrification risk, faster scale-up, improved infrastructure availability, better vehicle and charger utilisation, automated reporting on CO2 savings and total cost of ownership, and stronger evidence for sustainability and net zero reporting.
Michael Ayres, managing director at Flexible Power Systems, commented: “As commercial EV deployments scale, fleet operators need to maintain performance, control costs and keep vehicles and chargers available.
“Our partnership with Barron McCann combines FPS’s transition and real-time management software with best-in-class front-line support and charger uptime services, helping customers operate EV fleets with confidence.”
Steve Slater, head of electrical and EV at Barron McCann, added: “Fleet electrification creates major opportunities, but success depends on reliable infrastructure, responsive support and practical operational expertise. By partnering with FPS, we can offer customers a joined-up solution that helps them transition, scale and operate EV fleets reliably.”
