Five more model are now eligible for the UK’s Electric Car Grant, adding to the growing roster.

The latest entrants to the scheme include hatchbacks such as the Cupra Born, Volkswagen ID.3 and Peugeot e-208, plus the Peugeot e-2008 and Peugeot e-Rifter. These join the existing Nissan, Vauxhall, Renault/Alpine and Citroën EVs already cleared to receive major discounts under the scheme.

All five new entrants qualify for the maximum band 2 discount of £1,500, which means none of the 24 models certified so far attract the full £3,750.

Further announcements are expected in the coming days and weeks ahead of the all-important September plate change.

Announced in July, the £650m ‘Electric Car Grant’ (ECG) aims to support the transition to zero-emission vehicles and incentivise sustainable automotive manufacturing by offering grants of either £3,750 or £1,500 for eligible new cars that are priced up to £37,000 and meet the sustainability criteria.

Alongside the new Electric Car Grant, the Government is also further boosting the UK’s charging infrastructure through a new £63m investment package to break down barriers to electric vehicle ownership and boost charging infrastructure across the UK.

Announced last month, just prior to the ECG, the package includes a £25m investment to help local authorities expand at-home charging opportunities for thousands of households.

Newly released government figures also show over 120,000 electric vehicles were registered in the first three months of 2025 – an increase of 43% from the same period last year. The figures are the equivalent of 1,300 new EVs joining UK roads every day, showing public appetite to make the switch to EVs continues to grow.

Parallel to this, freshly published data from BCA shows used electric car sales at the remarketing specialist are running at record levels and currently outperforming other fuel types across August to date.

The firm said electric cars currently have the highest first-time conversion of any fuel type and also the strongest CAP performance of any fuel type for both the monthly and live product – suggesting that the launch of the Electric Car Grant in July isn’t impacting used EV demand.
